This superbly crystallised Zinkenite is from the Saint-Pons outcrops, Barcelonnette, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France, an area hosting two mineralised outcrops containing thirty identified mineral species. Several sulphosalts are found in the area, one of which is the copper-lead sulphosalt Zinkenite. This largish miniature has one face entirely encrusted with bright, bluish-black metallic Zinkenite crystals which range from tabular to acicular, with many crystals displaying a variety of iridescent peacock colours. A first class compact example from this fascinating French locality.
