Malachite
The copper carbonate Malachite was ubiquitous throughout the Tsumeb orebody, made possible by the unexpected secondary and tertiary oxidation zones encountered at depth. It is also thought that a possible forth oxidation zone may have existed towards the deepest part of the mine, around 44 level. This miniature has a display face totally covered in deep emerald to bottle green Malachite crystals. Such crystals are sometimes referred to as primary malachite because they are original crystals of Malachite and not pseudomorph replacements, the latter being a common source of Malachite throughout the mine. The Malachite forms a bed of glassy, lustrous bladed crystals, a relatively rare occurrence at Tsumeb.
