Pyrite with Fluorapatite
Fluorapatite is not a common accessory mineral on pieces from Peru and the contrasting piece also contains great cubes of Pyrite on a snow-white Dickite-rich matrix. This attractive, elongate cabinet piece has snow white white Dickite and finely crystalline Quartz matrix that is bejewelled by reflective, brassy yellow Pyrite cubes that pop out like candy. A bonus are the light mauve-colored Fluorapatite crystals, for excellent association and dramatic display qualities. The Pyrites are from 0.5 to 2.3 cm on edge and some are faintly striated while others have mirror-bright, super smooth surfaces. Just about all of them display the slightest beveled modification on all of the edges for great effect. The lustrous, barrel-shaped, hexagonal Fluorapatite crystals are from 0.3 to 1.1 cm across and have a distinct light mauve-gray color that contrasts with the white Dickite as do the bright, distinctive Pyrite crystals. It is a unique and attractive combination specimen from the zinc-lead-copper-silver mines of Peru. This highly unusual specimen is from the personal collection in Lima of multigenerational dealers, Elmer and Bruce Ramos. Elmer was widely known in the trade, and sadly passed away during COVID.
