Quartz var. Amethyst
This particular Quartz specimen is very atypical for this area of South Africa as this locality is best known for its darker amethystine style of "cactus quartz". Those often are consisting of rich purple, slender prismatic Quartz crystals covered in sparkling druses of equally rich purple Quartz, except at their terminations, make this a unique look worldwide. This one is simply unique compared to all the typical examples you are now thinking of - it has a trio of large, tabular, intersecting Quartz crystals that are completely covered in a coarse, pale Amethyst druse. The big Quartz crystals are from 5 to 7.3 cm in size and around 2.5 cm in thickness, and they intersect at a common area. The bottom of the piece reveals the two generations of Quartz indicating earlier formed, tabular, Milky Quartz crystals were subsequently and completely overgrown by a later generation of coarse, drusy, tightly bundled, amethystine Quartz. The piece has great composition and pleasingly pale purple color! At first it looks like it is a Japan law twin, however it is just a few degrees of arc off from being a twin, and so the shape is a coincidence, although very aesthetically pleasing.
