Lazulite (gem crystal)
Here we have a superb crystal of the magnesium-aluminum phosphate Lazulite (not to be confused with Lazurite), from a remarkable species-best find a couple of decades ago in 1998-1999. This material caught collector's attention when it came out and most major collectors leapt at the few larger specimens available at the time. Crystals over 2 cm were few, and this one would thus rank as somewhere in the upper-middle percentiles for size; certainly huge by any previous standards and not small even by the standards of this find, either. This exquisite thumbnail Lazulite is incredibly gemmy (especially for the species!) and has an intense, almost Demantoid, green color. The crystal is sharp and lustrous, showing a well formed faces and a fine termination. A competition level thumbnail! This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 29th Aug 2009. it is certainly among best in size class and this find was definitively the best of species. Many were cut into gems! Old survivor.
