Goethite ps. Magnetite
A large and unique Goethite after Magnetite pseudomorph, preserving the original magnetite crystal shape, from Myanmar! This was a large, well-formed, crystal of Magnetite with intricate growth faces and striations that has been completely replaced (pseudomorph) by Goethite. It has great luster and a deep brownish tone to it also suggesting that it is now something other than Magnetite. There are geometric, triangular growth patterns on some faces, while others have pronounced linear striations. This is certainly one of the best of species that Bill Larson had seen from here. Although Bill's label indicates that it is Magnetite based on the crystal form, there is no remnant magnetism left in the piece and it is completely replaced by Goethite when you examine it closely. In any case, a geometric crystal that seems quite unique from Burma.
