Pyrite
Stunning, brass-yellow Pyrite octahedrons with modified corners and barely perceptible modified edges form a very aesthetic, nearly complete-all-around specimen from the classic Huanzala Mine of Peru. The dramatic octahedrons have mirror-bright faces with barely discernible, extremely low-profile growth hillocks that add subtle aesthetic enhancements to the piece. The crystal is stunning, and very very different than material from other pockets, which is why several were kept in this important family collection of the Ramos family, multigenerational dealers based out of Lima. The piece sits nicely for display with the larger octahedron on top and the smaller octahedron at the bottom. The corner modifications probably represent cube forms while the edge modifications might be due to ever so slight dodecahedral modifications. The large octahedron measures 3.5 cm on almost every edge and the smaller one 2.5 cm on its longest edge. This pieces is pristine on the entire display area, save the bottom of the piece where it was removed from the pocket. This is an exceptional Peruvian Pyrite that stands out from the average pieces out there, and is eye-popping in person. It is unique in a world full of Peruvian pyrite cubes that mostly look the same.
