Rutile from Madagascar is often not thought of at the same level of respect as the famous golden rutile inclusions (and specimens) from Brazil. However, when they get good, they get REALLY amazingly good! This large sphere is from a one time find in 2012, in which the rich mass of included quartz was all sent to China for carving by the master craftspeople specializing in cultural quartz carvings, who could be trusted to extract and preserve the finest inclusions within. Only a handful of truly top level spheres were cut, perhaps only a dozen of note with such size, perfection, color, and linear dramatic crystals within: of which this is one. The video speaks for itself, and these literally look like trapped red lasers within a sphere of glass. They are that perfect and refined. These spheres cut from that rough are now legendary in China - although not widely known outside, with few having gone to the Western market and most still residing in private collections in China. This, in fact, came out of such a collection where it has lived for a decade or so. Quite massive at 3127 grams (over 3 kilos or 6.9 pounds!). A simply stunning object that is both lapidary and mineral art!
