Quartz with Rutile Inclusions

This is a stunning specimen of Rutile included within Quartz from Diamantina, Brazil. The robust, transparent Quartz crystal measures three inches in length and over two inches across and is host to numerous red-orange Rutile needles. There are a couple dozen Rutile crystals within the Quartz in random orientation and then there is a pronounced spray of thicker, nearly horizontally oriented Rutiles that transect the crystal about a third of the way up from the bottom. Several of these Rutile crystals protrude right out of the exterior of the crystal from a few millimeters to 1 cm. The color of the Rutile is a striking exhibiting a rich red-orange color and they really stand out. The contrast of symmetries and color, and of the acicular Rutile inside to the sharp faces of the enclosing Quartz is more dramatic than one normally sees in Rutilated Quartz. The piece is complete all around except for where its contacted at the bottom and back where it was attached to other Quartz crystals. A remarkable, rare Rutilated Quartz of the top caliber.
