Pyrite with Quartz
A choice small cabinet specimen from old finds at the Huanzala Mine in Peru, from the Ramos family collection consisting of several respected generations of fine mineral dealers. This piece is simple and complex at the same time, consisting of three larger and several smaller Pyrite crystals in a very aesthetic arrangement. The larger Pyrite crystals are uniformly 2 cm in size, lightly striated and are dominated by the cube with subtle pyritohedron influences like slightly bowed faces and edge modifications. There are several clusters of smaller Pyrite crystals from 2 mm to 1.1 cm distributed in places around the base of the piece emplaced on a gray-white, granular Quartz matrix that add harmony and balance to the piece. Among all the Peruvian Pyrites out there, this one is just incredibly artistic and attractive with essentially no damage anywhere, save one very tiny nick on an edge. This is NOT a common quality, but something startlingly fine and very rare amongst the crowd, perhaps much more obvious in person.
