Rhodochrosite
A stunning, flower-like example of the classic rhodochrosite that came out of the Kalahari Manganese field circa 1980-1982, this is a particularly choice miniature. It has large, gemmy crystals to 2 cm on the front (and 2.5 cm on the backside, where it is contacted but you can see the length better). Many of the crystals are not just gemmy, but actually transparent. It has a juicy cherry red color. It is robust, dramatic, and saturated. This is a famous miniature known in southern California for decades. Irv Brown obtained it as a trim off a significant specimen of cabinet size, owned by Wilensky at the time in the mid 1990s. He owned it for a decade and it was in his award winning miniatures collection in the 1990s before selling it to a major LA-area collector, who has owned it ever since. It speaks for itself in a simple video. Things like this are among the most terrified of all miniatures for the serious collector of fine miniature mineral specimens. It is not a representative N'Chwaning rhodo that happens to be a miniature size but, rather, it is an iconic miniature that happens to be a rhodo. There is a huge difference.
