Pink Fluorite with Galena (rare combination)
Pink is a rare color for Fluorite anywhere but especially from this famous lead-zinc mine that has produced an abundance of mineral specimens, but has rarely produced great pink Fluorite. This piece has a cluster of six, completely transparent, very lustrous, pale pink gem Fluorite crystals, all of which are octahedral with cube modifications. The Fluorites are so clear that you can see through every one of them to the sparkling little Pyrite crystals on a crust of matrix, underneath! As an added touch, several, slightly rounded and platy, battleship-gray Galena crystals are placed strategically around the piece, the largest of which is 2.2 cm across. It's interesting to note that all of the Galena crystals represent Spinel Law twinning that is responsible for their flattened habit and geometric sides! The small amount of matrix, visible only from the backside is lined with tiny, glistening, 1 to 2 mm Pyrite crystals. A really unusual and attractive combination piece, from one of just a very few small pink fluorite pockets over the years here.
