Description
A beautiful, intense blue specimen of the rare aluminum-bearing silicate allophane. It has a waxy and vitreous luster to it that is different than the similar-appearing chrysocolla (copper-containing). I had not seen this mineral from the Kelly Mine, but I am very much inclined to trust Al's judgement and labelling. The man was field-collecting since before my parents were born, and he has been all over the place building his large reference collection.

Origin: Graphic Tunnel, Kelly Mine, Magdalena District, Socorro Co., New Mexico
