This is an exceptional and large crystal of this unusual iron-aluminum oxide, collected in 2000 in Italy. It is very rare to find such large and well-formed crystals of Hercynite and this was an important find. This is a very obvious octahedron that that measures 4.2 cm on edge. The crystal is gray in color and has some pale blue matrix attached to it in places. It sits well on its own for display. You never see these available and this is an excellent example for the species! Ex. Gilbert Gauthier collection with label.
