Vauxite

Vauxite is a rare iron-aluminum-phosphate mineral species that only comes of note from Bolivia. It is on the "rare and beautiful" list of many collectors and this is an excellent example and the absolute best ones come from this locality which is also the Type Locality where it was discovered and named by the late Sam Gordon in the 1930s during one his famous collecting trips to South America. Better specimens such as this came out much later, but then nothing of this size and quality has come since the 1980s. Clusters and aggregates to 1.4 cm across make up an unusually aesthetic specimen that is not just a thin plate, it has rolling "bubbles" composed of tiny, beautiful blue Vauxite crystals. This is a well balanced, three-dimensional and geometric specimen with unusual quality and presence. These have not been found in this quality since the 1980s. Ex. Kosnar family personal collection and from a 1980s discovery of this material here. The Kosnar family has a multigenerational link to Bolivian mineral exports that Brian Kosnar continues to this day.
