Cobaltoan Dolomite "Cast" after Calcite$4,500.00

Cobaltoan minerals from Tsumeb like Calcite, Dolomite and Smithsonite all acquire a pink color due to trace amounts of cobalt in them as they formed in the extremely complex geologic environment of this famous mine. They are among the most colorful minerals period, aside from them just being Tsumeb Classics. Here is a dramatic display sized example of this Tsumeb oddity, not seen from anywhere else in the world like this: a cast, light in weight and like balsa wood in texture, preserving the original shape of some complex Calcite growth, but made out of pink Dolomite instead. Highly lustrous (most of these are rather dull in luster) and with a beautiful, strong pink-magenta color in good lighting, this cobalt-rich cast is an intense color for the varietal. The color is as good as it gets. It is thought to be formed as a cast after Calcite (or perhaps another generation of Dolomite). It is also unusually sparkly! Large size, excellent three-dimensional form and color make this one of the superlative examples of the style. It is from the long held collection of Shields Flynn, who assembled a large Tsumeb suite during the heyday of the mine in the late 1900s.
