The lead-zinc Pingtouling mine in south-east China has only seven recorded mineral species but, luckily for the collector, one of these is magnificently crystallised Mimetite. Pingtouling mine, also known as Dashuihu mine, is in Liannan County in the province of Guangdong. Golden-orange barley sugar coloured, translucent to gemmy Mimetite forms as splendid hexagonal plates to 1 cm across flats; some as thin plates and some that are developed into squat equant prisms. These lustrous and vibrantly coloured crystals overlay a matrix of limonite-stained granular Quartz. A truly magnificent miniature Mimetite from Pingtouling mine in China, a true modern classic.
