Fenster Quartz with Bubbles
A splendid example of fenster Quartz with at least one fluid inclusion from the Goboboseb Mountains in the Brandberg Area of the Erongo Region, Namibia. The terms 'fenster' and window' Quartz are interchangeable, yet both are colloquial terms for what is more accurately termed 'skeleton' or 'skeletal' Quartz. This miniature has four dominant colourless and transparent Quartz crystals up to 2.2 cm tall, all with skeletal windows chiefly in their termination faces. These, along with some smaller crystals, rise from a bed of tiny milky-white translucent Quartz crystals of sucrosic appearance. The specimen contains at least one fluid inclusion, a gas bubble in liquid, which has a considerable degree of movement and can be seen clearly using a loupe or, better still, a low power stereo-microscope.
