Le Haycot in the Br'zouard Massif of St. Marie-aux-Mines, France is best known for its fine specimens of Hematite from veins traversing the Br'zouard granite mass. The area has never been commercially exploited, so specimens such as this have been found during the likes of tree felling and road works. The Hematite forms a 1.3 cm thick crust over an earthy brick red and white matrix, with a surface of blocky, pseudo-hexagonal crystals with heavily straited faces. The Hematite is steel grey-black with a metallic blue iridescence and bright metallic lustre. It is a fine example from the classic French locality which, like so many others, is now banned to collectors.
