I don’t know who found this Scheelite-coated Quartz crystal but they must have thought they had hit the jackpot! What a sensational cabinet specimen this is with the entire large surface area of the termination complete encrusted with intergrown octagonal Scheelite crystals which also spill down the broadest of the six asymmetric prism faces. The specimen is from the Cínovec/Zinnwald orefield which spans the regions of Saxony and Ústí (Bohemia) of Germany and the Czech Republic. Ore deposits do not always adhere to geopolitical boundaries! Many hundred and probably thousands of light caramel octahedral Scheelite crystals, all of between 2 and 4 mm cover the six terminated faces and an area of approximately 5 x 4 cm on the broadest prism face of the Quartz crystal. Under LWUV there is no fluorescence yet under SWUV the Scheelite fluoresces a uniform pale creamy white. A knot of silvery white Mica crystals, probably Muscovite, sit at the base of the Scheelite-covered side. This is a fabulous Scheelite from Cínovec/Zinnwald accompanied by the previous German collector’s label.
