A charming small cabinet specimen of emerald to leaf green Fluorite from Rogerley mine, situated a little to the west of the village of Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham, England. Several gemmy, elongated twinned crystals form the main focus and are surrounded by many smaller crystals and silver-grey, corroded Galena crystals. The matrix is a typical altered limestone, rich in iron. The largest Fluorite crystals are slightly over 1.5 cm on their longest axis and as a group make a find specimen. The Fluorite, especially the larger prisms, naturally fluoresce deep inky blue in direct sunlight and under LWUV the entire specimens fluoresces whitish-lavender. Dull fluorescence is observed under SWUV. This specimen dates from the pre-2017 mining era and is ex the collection of Shields and Frances Flynn, well-known North American collectors.
