The superb specimens of Wulfenite and Mimetite being produced from La Morita mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, are relatively new, having only first been encountered in the mine in late 2018. The mine is worked for lead, zinc, silver and baryte, but has become known amongst collectors for its high-quality Wulfenite with Mimetite. This delightful specimen almost divides into two halves: one of orange Wulfenite, the other of yellow Mimetite. The Wulfenite forms as intermeshed blades to 2.9 x 1.8 x 0.7 cm with a preferential surface alteration from one direction. This produces highly lustrous bright apricot-orange faces from one side and light butterscotch-toffee brown faces with a silky lustre from the other. The Mimetite forms zingy acidic lemon-yellow spheres of between 1- and 2-mm diameter and, although this comes across as very tiny, in reality, their rich tapestry is bright, distinct and highly aesthetic. A delightful specimen from this fairly new Mexican locality.
