The only mineral species reported from Saint-Georges-les-Bains at Tournon-sur-Rhône in south-eastern France is Baryte, where it is known to form a variety of habits and adopt many variations in colour. There have been reports that specimens were collected from a trench dug during the 1980s, but a handwritten label accompanying this specimen suggests that it was acquired in 1969. This large miniature specimen is a splendid example of the thick tabular rhombic Baryte crystals known from here. The largest crystal is 44 mm along its longest edge and is artistically penetrated by similar blocky, but smaller, tabular crystals. The crystals are full of character, displaying opaque creamy tan edges and transparent to translucent central prisms and prism faces. These contain beautifully coloured zones in many shades of cream, white and grey, while punctuated with a fabulous rhombohedral band of teal blue. There are some slight abrasions on the edges of some of the crystals, but these are not obvious due to the outer cream coloured band. A delightful specimen from Saint-Georges-les-Bains in France.
