Apophyllite
Well formed crystals of Fluorapophyllite were scarce even when mining was at its peak in the silver mining district of St. Andreasberg in Lower Saxony, Germany. These delicately pink coloured Fluorapophyllites have become a collectors' favourite over the years and good specimens such as this are not easy to find. The specific species is Fluorapophyllite-(K) but is usually referred to by collectors simply as 'Apophyllite'. This excellent specimen is a large miniature of gemmy colourless to pale coral-pink Fluorapophyllite-(K) crystals, typically of about 1 cm across and piled-up to form an elongated dome hiding a rib of vein Quartz. This specimen is likely from the Samson mine, but this has not been recorded in the documentation. The tetragonal crystals have a brilliant glassy lustre, often with a pearlescent shimmer when caught at the correct angle. This delightful pink Fluorapophyllite, an ex. Dr Josef Clemente Collection specimen, will grace any collection and would be a terrific historic addition to any St. Andreasberg suite.
