Pyromorphite with Fluorite and Baryte
Pyromorphite is a wonderful secondary lead mineral, loved by many for its range of colours and crystal forms. The brown colour is one of the rarest, and whilst this colour might not be the brightest, or most attractive, it is certainly one of the most desirable. The number of mines worldwide that have produced fine brown Pyromorphite crystals is limited and Le Rossingol in the Chaillac mining area, Indre, Centre-Val de Loire, France is one such place. This small cabinet specimen is a superb example, displaying very large chestnut-brown crystals of Pyromorphite, to 1.7 cm in length, on a Fluorite matrix. Fluorite is an unusual associate of Pyromorphite, but this assemblage is common at Le Rossingol, but the brown pyromorphite is certainly much rarer. The quality of this specimen is exceptional, far above what would be normally seen from the Chaillac mining area, Indre, France. The Pyromorphite crystals have a beautiful waxy appearance, and display complex parallel clustered tapering crystals. The crystals dramatically protrude from both sides of the specimen and are in fabulous condition, showing the care made during collection and later within a collection. A remarkable specimen of the highest quality.
