Fluorite
Hilton mine in Scordale, in the eastern most part of Cumbria, needs no introduction for its world-class yellow Fluorite. The colour can vary enormously however, but in this quite charming small miniature, the colour does not come much better! This ex-matrix specimen, formed as a cluster of interlocked cubic Fluorite crystals, is a magnificent and show stopping golden-yellow, perhaps more accurately described as bright acidic amber or frozen golden syrup. The largest cube measures between 1.8 and 2 cm on edge and is mainly transparent with creamy frosted face centres. The smaller adjacent crystals are similar and all have complex internal, light reflecting planes, so emitting constant flashes of gold and electric-yellow. None of the cubes are complete because of in-situ contact with the former matrix however, when displayed, the front faces are complete and display superbly. A Hilton Fluorite of delicious colour.
