Styrian Erzberg is a mountain in the Austrian state of Styria and has been mined by open pit methods for about the last 800 years for iron ore in the form of siderite, ankerite and iron-rich dolomite. The location is particularly famous for its Flos Ferri, the coral-like variety of Aragonite and Styrian Erzberg is commonly regarded as the first location from which such a habit was recorded. This is a beautiful specimen of pure snow-white Aragonite with a microcrystalline texture and matt lustre. Narrow and elegant coral-like fingers of Aragonite branch upwards and outwards in all directions, although the longest project out asymmetrically from one end and measure to over 4.5 cm. The occasional tip is missing but it must be stressed this is negligible and can only be seen under close magnification, and hence almost every fingers is perfect. A choice and highly aesthetic Austrian Floss Ferri.
