Sperrylite
Sperrylite is a platinum arsenide and this good-sized miniature is from the Talnakh Cu-Ni Deposit in the Eastern-Siberian Region, Russia. It is a magnificent specimen, with many fine sperrylite crystals lining an L-shaped open vug in a dark matrix of what is though to be a mixed matrix of anhedral iridescent chalcopyrite and magnetite. The Sperrylite crystals range from a few mm to 0.9 cm on edge and form well defined cubic (isometric) crystals with their corners modified to the octahedron. Their faces tend to be crazed by a pattern of shallow furrows and all are of a pure metallic silver with a bright reflective metallic lustre. Sperrylite is a rare platinum mineral which so often is found only as small crystals, often at the more microscopic level. This is a specimen of museum quality and is well priced for such a splendid well-crystallised Russian Sperrylite. It comes with a collection of previous labels and a custom milled acrylic base into which the specimen securely slots into its contoured profile.
