Cuprite
A central vein of Cuprite displaying somewhat elongated Cuprite crystals from the Phoenix United Mines at Minions, close to Linkinhorne in Cornwall. Inter-grown, lustrous crystals of Cuprite measure to 1.2 cm, are set between white Quartz veins, on a dense brown characteristic Goethite, with minor green Malachite. This is a beautiful and classic old time specimen from these famous mines, somewhat reminiscent of the Cuprite crystal featured in P. G. Embrey and R. F. Symes' Minerals of Cornwall and Devon, BM(NH) and the Mineralogical Record Inc., 1987. on page 103, Figure 61. The Cuprite shown in the book is much larger, but no where near as lustrous as this specimen, but the similar shape of the elongated crystal is noteworthy. This specimen is accompanied with two previous labels.
