Some of the best specimens of Manganite in the world have come from Ilfeld in the Harz Mountains of central Germany and this 4.1 x 5.3 cm miniature is an excellent example. Covering a 1.2 cm thick matrix of massive Manganite, highly lustrous, coal-black metallic Manganite crystals of up to 1.8 cm long and 1 cm wide provide a dense coverage, making an excellent display specimen. Please note, one backward-facing crystal, the widest crystal on the plate, is cleaved with its termination missing. Viewed from the front this is not visible as the break is normal (i.e., at 90 degrees) to the prism's vertical axis, making it look like a natural termination from this direction. This lovely example of well crystallised Manganite from Ilfeld comes with a Dr H. Kleemeier label.
