Fluorite
Pink octahedral Fluorite from the Swiss Alps is one of Europe's iconic minerals with good specimens being few and far between. It is little wonder such specimens are so rare when you look at the awe-inspiring mountain scenery in which they are found, beautiful to admire but perhaps some of the most challenging collecting sites in the world! This superb miniature is from Göscheneralp in the Göschenen Valley of Uri, Switzerland, a landscape of craggy mountains of between 3,000 and 4,000 m, linked by perilous arêtes, from where the crystal hunters , or cristalliers, climb and discover and extract these most coveted specimens. Two well formed, octahedral, transparent to translucent, bubble gum pink Fluorite crystals sit on a granular matrix of white Albite and Quartz, making a most aesthetic, large miniature.
