VANADIUM Rich PYROMORPHITE
Greystone quarry, often referred to by collectors as “Greystones quarry”, is an operating road stone quarry about 3 miles south east of Launceston in Cornwall. The zone in which the quarry operates is crossed by numerous mineralised lodes which were once worked by Greystone silver lead mine, Wheal Sophia, North Tamar during the Victorian era. This small cabinet specimen is an interesting example of vanadium rich Pyromorphite. It forms acidic yellow to bright tangerine orange micro-crystals of Pyromorphite covering an area of about 3 x 1.5 cm, on top of a ferruginous Quartz matrix. The Pyromorphite’s colour is similar to specimens from Susanna mine at Leadhills.
