Bustamite with Galena
Bustamite was one of the principal manganese silicate minerals at Broken Hill where it occurred in several of the mines in worldclass crystals. These mines produced remarkable crystallized specimens during the 1960s and 1970s but good material has been sparse in recent years. This miniature specimen, from North mine, is from the famous Milton Lavers collection and consists of large, rounded, blocky Bustamite crystals to about 15 mm across in Galena. The Bustamite is similar in form to the Rhodonite which is also found at the mines, but the Bustamite is clove-brown in colour and translucent. A superb crystallized specimen of an Australian classic with the addition of great heritage.
