Hematite with Quartz$250.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A beautiful cabinet specimen of crystallised Hematite, the variety Specularite, coating two relatively thin yet strong plates of Hematite with a macro-botryoidal texture on the undersides. The specimen is from Florence mine, adjacent to the west Cumbrian town of Egremont and is a fine representative example from this mine which sadly closed in 2007. For several years before its closure it operated as a tourist attraction, but one where collectors were allowed to collect underground and then paid for their specimen, usually by weight. The main Hematite plate is shaped similar to a the Lady's Slipper epimorphs from Virtuous Lady mine, and measures almost 10 cm long. The secondary plate rises almost vertically from the latter at one end and is also encrusted with lustrous black Specularite and stubby Quartz crystals.
