CHROME Grossular
A remarkably brightly coloured, grass-green to light chrome-green miniature of Chromium-rich Grossular Garnet, from the iconic Jeffrey mine at Asbestos in Richmond County, Québec, Canada. In October 2020, by popular vote the town's name was changed from Asbestos to Val-des-Sources; however, as this specimen was collected prior to this, it is labelled Asbestos. The large open pit exploited a Chrysotile asbestos deposit, world famous for the fabulous Garnet and Vesuvianite specimens it produced, as well as a total of 113 species and type locality to four.
Well-developed, lustrous intergrown crystals of Grossular measuring to 3 mm are formed all over the specimen. This is a fabulous miniature display specimen mounted on an acrylic base.
