Quartz with Pyrite on Hematite$1,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Judging by the accompanying labels, this is clearly an old-time specimen of Quartz with Calcite and Pyrite on Hematite from Hodbarrow mine at Millom in Cumbria, England. A 4 cm long, double terminated smoky Quartz crystal dominates this miniature, the back-to-back terminations forming the majority of the crystal with just a 6 mm long prism body between the two. The Quartz has a transparent outer smoky shell with a translucent to opaque grey white core and bright, glassy lustrous faces. These are partly overgrown with equant nail-head Calcite crystals and octahedral golden brassy pyrite crystals. The underlying matrix is botryoidal Hematite capped with blades of lustrous, black Specularite Hematite. The oldest of the three accompanying labels is in fine copperplate inscribed Italian, plus two Krantz labels, one Dr A Krantz (528), the other (1302), Dr F Krantz.
