Clinoclase
An excellent cabinet size specimen of Clinoclase from Majuba Hill mine, Nevada, USA. The main display surface is richly coated in Clinoclase both as flat vein fillings, and more significantly as very lustrous, botryoidal deep dark blue crystals, like the variety once called by the Cornish, 'Beetle-ore'. The largest crystal reaches an impressive 8 mm in diameter, but most are much smaller. The crystal covered areas measure up to to 5 cm by 3 cm in extent and extend around the top of the specimen with sparkling microcrystals. The veinlets of massive Clinoclase are far more extensive, transversing the breccia matrix as dark blue coatings with green Chrysocolla. The beautiful electric blue colour of Clinoclase, that is so often missing from specimens, is clearly evident when light is directed upon the scaly surfaces of the larger crystals. A very rich, display quality Majuba Hill mine Clinoclase with one very sizable crystal. The old David New label accompanying this specimen reveals that is was formerly in the Lyman Museum which could possibly be the Smithsonian affiliated Natural History museum based in Hawaii.
