Fluorite
This delightful small cabinet specimen, displaying delicate mixed shades of yellow and purple Fluorite, is from the Marienschacht mine in the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District of Bavaria, Germany. This area has produced a stunning variety of coloured Fluorites over its extensive mining history, which dates back to at least the 15th century. Slightly elongated Fluorite crystals of between 0.4 and 1.6 cm envelop an extended core of massive, rich violet Fluorite. The crystals are a mix of transparent and translucent patches and give an overall display of intermixed golden honey-yellow shot-through with zones and networks of rich lilac and violet. The crystal faces are covered with geometric square growth patterns and despite their lustre being bright and glassy, they can also appear semi-matt with a waxy texture. A beautiful bi-coloured Fluorite from Wölsendorf and ex. the Dr Joseph Clemente (1899-1987) Collection of southern Germany.
