NATIVE Copper
This beautiful cabinet specimen of Native Copper is from the copper mining area of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan, USA, the region often referred to as Copper Country. The Native Copper forms a branching aggregate of elongated, rounded crystals measuring to 2.5 cm, of a magnificent copper-red tinted chocolate brown. The patina on such specimens is a characteristic of the Keweenaw Peninsula, making them instantly recognisable in any display. The specific mine from where this specimen originates is not recorded, but this is a common trait for any mining region in which so many mines existed. Apart from greatly enhancing any Copper Country or North American collection, this specimen would be an excellent example to use in a display of native elements.
