Rhodochrosite
Wolf mine at Herdorf in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of Germany is famous for its very fine and attractive specimens of Rhodochrosite. This specimen is a stunning example composed of choice tangerine-orange Rhodochrosite crystals of typically 3 to 5 mm wide yet reaching 1 cm, forming a dense cluster on top of a pisolitic (micro-botryoidal) matrix of Limonite-coated manganese oxides. The Rhodochrosite crystals form plumose, wheat-sheaf structures with globular heads and their translucency allows transmitted light to make their velvet-textured surfaces glow. A beautiful and aesthetic specimen of German Rhodochrosite.
