IMITERITE with Proustite XANTHOCONITE and Cinnabar
This is a great looking large miniature specimen of a very vuggy, light grey sulphide matrix, richly covered in small acicular crystals of crimson Proustite. However, amongst the numerous nooks and crannies lurk some very fine crystals of the rare silver-mercury sulphide Imiterite, as metallic, silver-black perfect Roman sword crystals. Although admittedly hard to find, this specimen also has some very fine clusters of the equally rare silver-arsenic sulphosalt, Xanthoconite, as yellow-orange and light tan equant well-developed crystals. Cinnabar does occur on the specimen but is indistinct and difficult to clearly identify. Save for the Proustite, all other crystals are micro and require the use of a stereo microscope to see. This is normal for Imiterite and Xanthoconite as they do not occur in any larger form. It might seem obvious, but the Imiter mine is the Type Locality for Imiterite.
