Calcite
Calcite is ubiquitous throughout the Tsumeb mine, occurring in numerous habits and varieties of colour. This particular specimen is of a most aesthetic habit, whereby colourless rhombic crystals are developed as highly flattened and heavily striated prisms. Although no matrix is visible when displayed, a granular patch of pale salmon pink dolomite (rock) shot through with pale pastel green Duftite add provenance. The Calcite is uniformly colourless with an almost mirror-like glassy lustre and parallel striations formed by successive stepped planes across the Calcite’s surface. A fine example of this Calcite habit from Tsumeb.\n
