Large, blocky equant crystals of dark smoky grey Calcite emerge from a Galena and Aragonite matrix, the surface of which is coated with drusy snow-white Aragonite. The Calcite crystals average 2.5 x 2.0 x 2.0 cm and have gently striated faces, all with a high lustre. From the Me'ica mines in the Carinthia Region of Slovenia, the crystals vary from translucent to opaque, depending on their depth of colour, controlled by finely disseminated inclusions. An attractive and eye-catching Calcite from the classic Me'ica mining district.
