Fluorite
Frazer's Hush mine, at Rookhope, near Weardale in County Durham, England has produced some of the most highly prized Fluorite specimens in Britain. In common with all Weardale Fluorites the crystals fluoresce a brilliant violet colour under long wave ultraviolet light, but their additional quality is their vivid fluorescence in daylight. Normally, visible light masks the effects of fluorescence, but in Frazer's Hush specimens the brightness is just too much to be diluted by daylight. This superb large cabinet specimen has a natural intense purple colour and striking glassy lustre to the many twinned cubic crystals. The larger the crystals, the darker the colour. Ex David Green collection.
