A fine large display specimen of Fluorite from the La Collada mining area in Spain showing the iconic crystal form so loved from this area. A bed of cream coloured crystallized Calcite with a little Pyrite is richly covered in large aggregates of intergrown deep purple crystals of Fluorite individually reaching up to 2.7 cm across, and many over 2 cm. The Fluorite crystals display smooth major cubic faces modified by a strong development of the dodecahedron, manifested in the broad bevelled, or chamfered edges with distinctive surface crazing. The Fluorite crystals have the appearance of being quite dark purple in colour, but when backlit, or illuminated with strong directional light, the vibrant internal purple colour really shows through, contrasting with the darker purple chamfered edges. That is when this specimen really comes alive. The edges of the specimen are rough, where it has been extracted, but the display surface is in excellent condition and the specimen naturally sits in a number of different angles for display, depending on preference. A superb Spanish Fluorite from the most desirable of occurrences.
