Marcasite
A quite aesthetic and interesting small cabinet specimen of spherical nodular domes of brassy to golden-silver Marcasite on an iron-rich gossan matrix of brecciated milky Quartz. The Marcasite spheres measure up to 1.1 cm diameter. This somewhat unusual specimen is from the N'4 Lode on the 400 fm Level of South Crofty mine at Pool, about midway between Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall. A fathom (fm) is equivalent to 6 feet, a nautical unit of measurement also used in mines. This mine now goes under the name South Crofty Tin Project. The specimen is accompanied with two previous collector's labels, one from the late Maurice J.E. Grigg.
