Calcite
A gorgeous single prismatic Calcite crystal from Bigrigg, Cumbria. The Calcite measures 8.2cm long, doubly terminated with water clear terminations displaying two different forms - a scalenohedral termination at one end, and the other rhombohedral leaning towards a nail head habit. The scalenohedral termination is almost imperceptibly included by Hematite, giving the termination a slight pinkish hue. The crystal has three points of contact on the back of the specimen, two of which are negative imprints of other crystals and do not detract in any way from this fine crystal. From the classic Calcite specimen producing area of the West Cumberland Iron Orefield. The specimen comes with a Lindsay Greenbank label, and a Cambridge Dept of Mineralogy label (where the Sedgewick Museum acquired the specimen in about 1890).
