Quartz var. Sceptre Amethyst
A quite different habit of Sceptre Quartz from the Chiredzi mining district in Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe, SE of the city of Bulawayo. In this fine example, the second generation crystal or sceptre head dominates with the first generation crystal forming a short milky-Quartz stub. The main crystal, along with two smaller attached crystals, are Amethyst Quartz, with very variable colouration from colourless to deep violet and purple. The crystal contains numerous inclusions of fine hair-like filaments, some terminating with a small sub-spherical head. Fascinating under magnification.
