This show-stopping group of ice-clear Quartz crystals requires little introduction from the historic province of Dauphiné in south-eastern France, as each beautiful crystal has a perfect Dauphiné termination. The Dauphiné habit has one or two greatly enlarged rhombohedral faces on the termination, creating a high-angled and characteristic face. The crystals in this group all exhibit one such face, the result of either gravity-perturbed crystal growth or an uneven supply of silicic acid due to adjacent crystals or circulating currents in the fluid supply during growth. The longest Quartz crystal is 11.4 cm, other large crystals measure 7.4 cm and 6.8 cm, with many smaller yet equally perfect crystals intermeshed between. All are optically water-clear and many have tiny glassy Quartz crystals branching from their prism faces, cactus-style. The base of every crystal is cleaved but every termination is perfect! A wonderful Dauphiné habit Quartz from its original place of discovery.
