Almandine Garnet
Essentially five intergrown large dodecahedral Almandine Garnet crystals from the old historic Russell Garnet mine location in Hampden County, Massachusetts, USA. The specimen displays the Almandine Garnets partly merged into one another, with individual crystals measuring to over 5 cm in diameter. The crystals are dark chocolate brown to almost black displaying some lustre to the crystal faces. Please note this specimen has been repaired where a pair of crystal at one end have at some time broken off. The repair is relatively unnoticeable although on close inspection traces of an off-white glue are visible along the break. Still, an American classic from this short-lived find in the late 1880s.
